Overview

From the 17 museums and cultural institutions in San Diego’s Balboa Park to Hearst Castle along the Central Coast to the world-class offerings in San Francisco, the Golden State is blessed with an embarrassment of riches. Don’t miss the artwork at Los Angeles County icons like the Getty Center and The Broad, but also keep an eye out for unique collections around the state, including the International Surf Museum in Huntington Beach and performing arts troupes from Oakland to Costa Mesa.

California is a place of wide-open spaces that champions open-mindedness and celebrates diversity. Californians respect our friends and neighbors and their health and safety. We respect the environment, local culture and all the different kinds of people who visit our state. Respect is the key to keeping each other safe and all of California’s precious and fragile beauty protected, today and tomorrow. Feel free to traipse, travel and follow your joy in California. Please follow this California Responsible Travel Code while doing so. Roam Responsibly. I will explore California thoughtfully and responsibly, maintaining the utmost respect for everyone and everything I encounter. Educate Myself. I will do my research before traveling across the state, familiarizing myself with local regulations and community concerns, which may have changed over time. This is especially important in rural communities with limited healthcare resources. Safety First. I will follow public health directives from government officials, including physical distancing measures. I will take all necessary steps to minimize health risks to myself and others and stay home if I’m sick. Preserve California. I will protect and nurture the Golden State’s pristine outdoor spaces and cultural icons, by maintaining a light footprint at every turn and paying special attention to delicate ecosystems. Embrace Community. I will support local businesses and do my part to ensure the long-term prosperity of the places I visit. Celebrate Culture. I will immerse myself in California’s diverse local cultures and embrace the traditions and practices I encounter. Teach Others. I will lead by example and share these practices with fellow travelers, acknowledging that we all share the responsibility to protect California. We all need something to look forward to again and nothing is more exciting than planning that next perfect getaway. We’re here to help. Let’s go there. It’s time to feel the feeling of anticipation again. Get inspired, get planning and book that perfect trip to take, when you’re ready. Let’s go there. The journey begins the moment we decide to go somewhere. Let’s Go There. Book now to travel later.

Thanks to its 840 miles of coastline, nine national parks, thousands of campgrounds, and a scenic diversity unparalleled on the planet, California is truly an outdoor enthusiasts’ dream. You can drive dune buggies in the desert, ride the whitewater on a kayak or raft, soar above the ocean on a hang glider, ski in the backcountry, rock climb in Yosemite, explore coastal islands above or below the water, and so much more. Let your imagination be your guide and explore the endless opportunities in the Golden State.

California boasts nine national parks—more than any other state—and each has its own unique appeal. Death Valley is the biggest, the hottest, and the most foreboding. Joshua Tree possesses an otherworldly charm and so much dynamic flora. If you want to escape civilization, head to the Channel Islands. For big trees, Kings Canyon & Sequoia are both superb. Yosemite National Park is a World Heritage site and it’s easy to see why. Pinnacles is an ideal spot to see endangered California condors while Lassen Volcanic and Redwoods will provide delights both expected and surprising.
