Day 1: Arrive in Gettysburg

Step back in history as you explore the roughly 6,000 acres of battleground that forms The Gettysburg National Military Park. Whether by car, horse or Segway, encounter the more than 1,300 monuments that lay across this field of history. Discover how three days here became the turning point of the American Civil War. This evening, consider the Ghosts of Gettysburg Walking Tour guided by candlelight for a paranormal take on the area's historical events.

Day 2: Gettysburg to Lancaster

Take a scenic drive to nearby Lancaster, home of the second largest Amish settlement in the world. The county is known for its rolling hills, beautiful farmland and relaxing way of life. Ditch the car for a buggy ride for an authentic experience, or truly immerse yourself in local culture with a home-cooked meal on an Amish farm. If time and interest allows, partake in a foodie or a Craft Beer & History tour - ideal for first time visitors!

Day 3: Gettysburg

Today is entirely unscripted for you to write your own adventure: take a horseback riding tour through the trails of Gettysburg, venture off to nearby York to visit its Colonial Complex and Harley Davidson factory, or take a drive out into the country – visiting some of the farms, markets and wineries along the Gettysburg Wine and Fruit Trail.

Day 4: Gettysburg

Today, you write the script! Looking for a change of pace? Find your zen at a local favorite- Gettysburg Goat Yoga! Or, try your hand at baking at Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery where you can tour the first commercial pretzel bakery in the US and see the original ovens they used. Whatever you choose, it's your adventure to make!

Day 5: Farewell

Your trip ends today as you drive back home with wonderful memories.

Sites and stories of Underground Railroad heritage from this region of Southeastern Pennsylvania along the Mason-Dixon Line have never before been offered in a public history setting on a regular basis. This region is well-documented as being an active part of the Underground Railroad, where enslaved people liberated themselves from plantations following the American Revolution until the outbreak of the Civil War. Experiences can take the form of walking tours, step-on guided motor coach services, or personal vehicle excursions.
