Day 1: Reykjavik

Welcome to Iceland! Upon arrival, you will be taken to the hotel (transfer is included). Once you are settled in, take some time to explore this eclectic city. Reykjavik is known for its art scene, vibrant nightlife, and many fascinating museums. Join your Local Leader this evening for your welcome meeting where you’ll meet your fellow travelers. Afterward, we’ll head out for dinner at a local restaurant. (d)

*Please note, Club Adventures and Girl Scouts cannot guarantee that any departure will be exclusively female.

Day 2: Hvolsvöllur Valley

Today, the beauty of the Golden Circle awaits. Our first visit is Thingvellir National Park, where we’ll walk between the European and American tectonic plates. En route to The Great Geysir, we’ll stop at a geothermal bakery for a unique culinary experience highlighting how the local community harnesses the region’s natural resources. Next, take in the stunning Strokkur Geyser and Old Geyser, witnessing the power of Iceland’s geothermal landscape. Our last stop of the day is the iconic Golden Waterfall, Gullfoss—an unforgettable sight. We arrive this evening at our countryside hotel—the perfect location for catching the northern lights! But, before we go hunting for the aurora borealis, perhaps partake in a “Dessert and Chat” to bond over shared Girl Scout memories! (b, d)

Day 3: South Coast

This morning, we’ll head out to the eerily beautiful Skógafoss Waterfall, one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland. Get up close and feel its power or climb a long, but rewarding, stairway to an incredible viewpoint. Next, we’ll continue along Iceland's south shore to take in more of the country’s renowned natural wonders. From the stepping-stone rock formations of Reynisdrangar to the promontory of Dyrhólaey and the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, the south shore is one of the country's most scenic regions. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the famous Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a stunning sea of floating icebergs whose sapphire hues contrast with the charcoal-colored sand of the beach. When we stop for the night at a farm stay on the south coast, weather permitting, we’ll have another opportunity to step outside and witness the natural wonders of the northern lights. (b)

Day 4: Vík

Today, we’ll take a walk on Europe's biggest ice cap, Vatnajökull, which has around 30 glaciers flowing out from it. If you would like, you can embark on a hike to the glacier's tongue or return to the glacier lagoon at Jökulsárlón or Fjallsárlón. No experience is necessary for this hike. If you prefer a relaxing morning, you can explore the surroundings of the farm stay and head to The Thorbergur centre. Afterward, we’ll continue our journey to the black sand seaside town of Vík. With the sea on one side and high cliffs on the other, this quaint village is Iceland's most southern mainland settlement. (b)

Day 5: Reykjavik

This morning, we’ll make our way to the beautiful Seljalandsfoss Waterfall before heading back to Reykjavik. Upon our return, take a guided walk of Reykjavik, where we’ll visit the old harbor, the city center, and the famous Hallgrímskirkja Church. Iceland’s capital has a robust arts and music scene, an abundance of quirky cafes, and a laid-back vibe. Perhaps browse some of the city’s great art galleries. If you haven’t had enough of the northern lights yet, you could head out of town to chase them again this evening or unwind by soaking in a local geothermal spa. Tonight, celebrate the end of this whirlwind trip with a closing ceremony. (b)

Day 6: Reykjavik

Our Icelandic adventure ends today with an included group transfer to the Reykjavik airport. (b)

Things to know before your trip

Currency

The official currency in Iceland is the Icelandic Krona (ISK).

ATMs are available in most towns, so the easiest way to access cash on your trip is to bring a credit/debit card. Please check with your bank about overseas withdrawal fees before you depart. Some banks will allow a cash advance against a major credit card which will incur a service charge of 5% or more. Currency exchange is available at major banks and some hotels.

Iceland can be an expensive destination in many ways, from museum entrance fees to outdoor activities, but especially in terms of eating out. Your leader will be able to advise on how to save money. In remote areas the only option for dinner will be at the guesthouse we are staying at. Please stock up on food at a supermarket prior to arrival if you would like to opt out eating at the guesthouse's restaurant.

Weather

The Icelandic climate is very unpredictable the whole year round thus we recommend to all our guests to bring good sturdy shoes for trekking, a warm wind and rainproof jacket and trousers, gloves or mittens, good head wear and sunglasses.

The destinations visited on this trip can be cold throughout the year, especially at the start and end of the season and at night. Please bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions. There may be the rare occasion where your leader has to alter the itinerary and activities due to the weather. In this case an alternative will be offered.

The closer you travel to the second half of June, the shorter the nights are in this part of the world. As many of our accommodations may not have suitable curtains to block out light you may want to consider bringing an eye-mask, especially if you are a light sleeper.

Cuisine

Vegetarians might find the menu selection less varied than they would see at home. Vegetarianism is not as common in this region and generally the choices are basic, involving vegetables, soups, salads, bread, cheese, fruit, yogurt, eggs etc. Vegans and those on gluten-free diets may find this region very challenging and may need to supplement meals with their own supplies from supermarkets and markets. Wherever possible we will cater for dietary needs for any included meals, but there may be times when those with special requirements may need to provide their own.

Visas

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveler. Entry requirements can change at any time, so it’s important that you check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality. Your consultant will also be happy to point you in the right direction with acquiring visas. Visas can take several weeks to process, so familiarize yourself with any requirements as soon as you have booked your trip to allow for processing time.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. We require that, at a minimum, you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Please ask your travel agent or Club Adventures team member for insurance options at time of booking.
