Itinerary
Welcome to Jordan! Upon arrival, you will be taken to the hotel (transfer is included). If you arrive early, perhaps visit a local cafe and pick up a coffee and some arayes (pita filled with spiced meats) or consider heading to the Old Town’s Roman Amphitheatre and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. Tonight we’ll gather and meet our Local Leader and fellow Girl Scout travelers for a welcome meeting and to overview of the adventure ahead. Afterward, we’ll dig into Jordanian cuisine at a local restaurant— sharing food is a huge part of Jordanian culture and eating out is a social affair that’s packed with flavor. Our Leader will introduce us to some of the country’s most beloved dishes, like mansaf, a dish made with lamb, yogurt, and rice; and kunafa, a delicious dessert made with pastry and cheese. (d)
*Please note, Club Adventures and Girl Scouts cannot guarantee that any departure will be exclusively female.
This morning, leave Amman for a short drive north to Jerash, where we’ll find some of the world’s best Greco-Roman ruins. Jerash holds a collection of impressive archways, theatres, baths, public buildings, and colonnaded streets. Our Local Leader will share the incredible history of the ruins and help you imagine what life once looked like in this glorious Roman city. Grand columns circle the city's Oval Plaza—an atmospheric place to linger after exploring Jerash's riches. Afterward, we’ll return to Amman and explore a cooking school run by a mother and her daughters. We’ll feel as though we’ve stepped into the welcoming home of a local family as we learn how to make classics like tabbouleh, flat bread, and lentil soup with passionate guidance and generations of culinary know-how. Tonight, perhaps gather to try local Jordanian desserts for a “Dessert and Chat” to bond over shared Girl Scout memories! (b)
Today, we will make the journey from Amman to the Dead Sea. Named for the lack of life in its waters, this lake is so intensely salty that the water density makes swimming difficult but bobbing on the water's surface is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. En route, stop off at Mount Nebo and St. George’s Church, best known for its Byzantine mosaic depicting a map of the Holy Land. On arrival, take some time to float in the buoyant waters of the Dead Sea, relax on your hotel’s beachfront, or swim in one of the hotel’s three swimming pools. (b, d)
Say farewell to the Dead Sea and drive to Shobak, where our Local Leader will explain how this ancient castle was originally built to protect the trade routes of the eastern Latin Kingdom before it fell to Saladin in 1189. Later, enjoy superb scenery and stop at the viewpoint overlooking the Dana Biosphere Reserve before arriving at our Petra accommodation in the late afternoon. Petra dates to the sixth century BC and is considered the crown jewel of Jordan, featuring an impressive series of tombs and dwellings carved directly into rock. On arrival, there is time to explore the town that has grown around the site and relax in preparation for a big day of adventure. (b, d)
This day will be spent uncovering the secrets of Petra with the knowledgeable guidance of our Local Leader. The iconic view of the Treasury's glorious facade, glimpsed from a narrow cleft known as the Siq, is one of the most striking sights of the entire region. The Siq leads through the rock and is only a few meters wide at points, with walls soaring up to 590 feet on either side. Explore the old Roman road, the amphitheater, and several ancient tombs. You will also have time to climb to the Monastery if you wish, providing a magnificent view. There is a cafeteria on site where you can enjoy your own light lunch. The rest of the day will be unscripted to write your own adventure. This evening, witness Petra by night or see the Treasury Plaza lit up by candlelight while Bedouin music plays in the background. These are unforgettable experiences you’ll want to try, if available. (b, d)
Looking for another glimpse of Petra? Rise early for an unguided morning visit. Later, we will drive to Wadi Rum, a protected area of desert with sandstone mountains, canyons, and arches. Enjoy lunch in the small village of Rum and browse the informative visitor’s center. Afterward, jump into a local jeep and ride into Wadi Rum with our Bedouin hosts. Visit several of the area’s distinctive rock formations and appreciate the vast silence and spectacular desert landscapes, home to Bedouin communities that live in scattered camps. We will gain a deeper understanding of their way of life as we join them for a zarb (underground oven) dinner at one of their camps, set in an amazing location deep in the desert. Tonight’s accommodation will bring you back to your Girl Scout camp days—with a few more elevated amenities! Enjoy a luxury camp experience in wild surroundings: spacious tents are filled with creature comforts like king-size beds, air conditioning, handmade furniture, and en suite bathrooms. Fall asleep beneath a magnificent canopy of stars and wake up to a sunrise over the red-hued landscape. (b, d)
After waking up in the unique surroundings of your Bedouin camp, take a walk around the area before scaling one of the large dunes for panoramic views. Afterward, return to Amman for the evening where the group will head out for a farewell dinner and closing ceremony to round off your adventure. (b, d)
Our adventure will come to an end today. Your airport transfer is included. (b)

Things to know before your trip
When it comes to money matters on the trip, every traveler is a little different. You know your spending habits better than we do, so please budget a sensible amount for things like meals not included, drinks, shopping, optional activities, tipping and laundry. It’s always better to bring a little more than you think you’ll need.
Also make sure you’ve read your trip details thoroughly so you know what’s included in the trip price and what isn’t. This should make budgeting a little easier.
Lunch: Lunch at a touristy restaurant should cost around USD10 to USD20. However, local street food can be substantially cheaper.
Dinner: At dinner time, your leader will normally recommend restaurants where you can safely try the local specialties of the region. Expect meals to cost between USD15 to USD25 for a main.
These are indicative prices only. If you are in a tight budget and are happy to eat just local food you can eat cheaper than this. If you want to try the finest food at the finest restaurants, then you can expect meals to cost as much as in western countries.
Your group leader or representative will endeavor to cater for specific dietary requirements where possible, and vegetarianism and gluten intolerance will be catered for in most instances. There are, however some meals and activities that are fixed in advance and therefore cannot be modified to suit dietary requirements.
Please notify your booking consultant of any dietary requirements at the time of booking. For those suffering from particular food allergies, your group leader or representative will endeavor to disclose to their fullest knowledge the main ingredients in dishes being consumed. It is, however, your personal responsibility to ensure that you do not ingest any foods to which you are allergic.
There is quite a bit of walking involved in visiting Jordan's historic sites, especially in Petra and Wadi Rum, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. Most of the time there is no shade so remember to bring a hat, sun protection, and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes.
Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveler. Entry requirements can change at any time, so it’s important that you check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality. Your consultant will also be happy to point you in the right direction with acquiring visas. Visas can take several weeks to process, so familiarize yourself with any requirements as soon as you have booked your trip to allow for processing time.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. We require that, at a minimum, you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Please ask your travel agent or Club Adventures team member for insurance options at time of booking.
