Day 1: Charleston

Welcome to Charleston! Make your way to our hotel and enjoy the afternoon as you please. Perhaps take a stroll past some of Charleston's collection of beautifully restored homes, including Heywood Washington House, Joseph Manigault House, or Nathaniel Russell House. Tonight, gather with your Local Leader and fellow travelers for a short briefing before heading out for dinner at a local restaurant. Girl Scout alum Carrie Morey, the founder of Callie’s Charleston Biscuits, will join you for dinner to chat about her days as a Girl Scout, entrepreneurship, and PBS documentary. This is a great introduction for the activity you will participate in tomorrow, learning how to make Callie's biscuits! (d)

*Please note, Club Adventures and Girl Scouts cannot guarantee that any departure will be exclusively female.

Day 2: Charleston

Start your day by experiencing Charleston’s sights through the lens of Black history. An Insider Expert will take you on a historical stroll through a section of the 5th ward of colonial Charles Town (now known as Wraggborough). For lunch, you'll learn how to make Callie's Biscuits! In this private class you will master the art of baking these traditional southern treats. Then, enjoy a catered lunch by Callie's Hot Little Biscuit team. Later today, we tour Charleston’s Art District, where local and regional artists create the city’s vibrant art scene. Tonight, we recommend you take an evening walk to Local 616—a laid back, Black-owned restaurant known for its specialty cocktails and sunset views. (b, l)

Day 3: Charleston

A truly unique Lowcountry tradition is brought to life today—sweetgrass baskets. This historical art form hails from the coast of Sierra Leone in West Africa and was brought to America by enslaved people over 300 years ago. This basket making tradition has been passed down from generation to generation and uses all-natural materials that are grown along the coast of South Carolina. After learning about these unique handicrafts, we'll head to the Historic City Market to see where they are sold. It’s the perfect start to our foodie tour that will introduce us to the many culinary delights in this charming city. Our Insider Expert will give us the best local suggestions and samples of foods including stone-ground grits, prawns, and South Carolina barbecue. (b, food tasting)

Day 4: Charleston to Savannah

The Hostess City of the South, Savannah, awaits us. Upon arrival, enjoy unscripted time to explore as you please. Consider a hop on hop off trolley tour to learn about Savannah's people, culture, and rich history. Or, if you prefer, take a stroll through the City Market district. Filled with shops, art galleries, and the occasional local musician, it’s the perfect spot to catch a bite. Be sure to stop by the Savannah City Market, to explore the black-owned art galleries of Jery B. Taylor – one of the world's best basket weavers – and William Kwamena-Poh who skillfully portrays his Ghanaian culture and history. This evening, perhaps you’ll choose to join your Girl Scout host for a “Dessert and Chat” to share in a discussion about your group’s Girl Scout experiences! (b)

Day 5: Savannah

After a relaxing morning, stroll through the east side of Savannah's Historic District to sample food at six local restaurants on a lunchtime culinary walking tour. During this outing, you will taste local delicacies like fried green tomatoes, chopped pork sandwiches, and en papillote chicken at hidden gems and well-known hot spots alike. Listen as your Insider Expert fills you in on Savannah's distinctive culture and tumultuous history; the food and conversation will add up to an experience that's both gastronomically and intellectually satisfying! Keep the indulgence going with dinner at a local restaurant. (b, food tasting, d)

Day 6: Savannah

Today is full of Girl Scout adventures! As the founder of Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low created the largest and most successful organization for girls in the world. We will head to her resting place to pay respects to her determination and tireless efforts. Next, we’ll visit the Andrew Low house, which belonged to Juliette’s father-in-law. The carriage house on the property was the first headquarters of Girl Scouts and is owned by the local council today. After some time to enjoy lunch in the surrounding area, we’ll make our way to the Telfair Museum—the first art museum in America founded by a woman. Then, we’ll head together to the Birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low for an exclusive Girl Scout connection. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a private after-hours tour of the Birthplace followed by a complimentary drink and historical lecture on Juliette Gordon Low and the history of Girl Scouts. Our day ends with dinner at a local restaurant. (b, d)

Day 7: Farewell

Our journey ends in Savannah, but memories full of history, good food, and beautiful surroundings are sure to stay with us for a lifetime. (b)

Things to know before traveling to United States of America

Cuisine

While travelling with us you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though.

Personal Medications

Medical prescriptions written outside of the US and Canada aren't accepted at pharmacies. Therefore, we recommend you bring along your personal medications in the necessary quantities for your trip.

Vaccinations

You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information or for any necessary vaccinations before departure. Please ensure that you are adequately prepared. Note that all Club Adventures tours require full COVID-19 vaccination.
