Visit a local pineapple plantation to learn about the cultivation of this sweet fruit and sip pineapple liquor then head on to one of the most iconic viewpoints on the island, Sete Cidades. Learn the traditional art of making ceramics at a pottery factory that brings to life the colorful artwork so central to Azorean life. You’ll bring your 8-day adventure to a close with a unique culinary experience using the volcanic heated earth to cook your meal!

Itinerary
Welcome to Sao Miguel Island, treasured as the vibrant Garden of the Atlantic. Check in to your hotel and take time to relax before your island adventure begins. In the afternoon, meet your fellow travelers for lunch at a private Quinta. The afternoon is at your leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner at Bom Pesqueiro.

The day begins with a short walking tour of the city of Ponta Delgada, with a stop at a local market for insight into Azorean foods and delicacies. Our next stop is Sete Cidades (the seven cities). This viewpoint is one of the most beautiful on the island with amazing views over the Caldeira das Sete Cidades, and specifically, over its natural lakes with clear blue (reflecting the sky) and green (reflecting the ground) waters. Here you will learn all about the village of Sete Cidades through the lens of an expert tour guide. Following this we will enjoy lunch at Saca Rolhas. This will be followed by Teatime at Quinta da Queiro. Return to the hotel for a bit of time to relax before meeting up with the group to enjoy dinner and music at Adega Mestre Andre in Ponta Delgada.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then we set out to the mystical Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake) to take in the magnificent vistas. Visit a pottery factory where you will see all stages of the traditional art of making ceramics from molding to baking to painting, before stopping at a liqueur factory. A visit to the Emigration Museum is followed by lunch at O Faria. After lunch we will stop at Solar Branco, a gin library and workshop before returning to Ponta Delgada. Tonight’s dinner is showcases the regional beef at Cais de Sardinha.

Your day is at leisure to relax or independently explore Ponta Delgada. Take an optional tour – whale watching, kayaking, hiking – there are many to choose from. The day is yours to write your own script.

This morning, after breakfast we will head out to Quinta do Agricultor. This will be followed by a tour of a pineapple plantation near the city of Ponta Delgada. See how the pineapple is grown and cultivated, followed by a sampling of pineapple liquor. Dinner tonight will be a full experience, complete with musical entertainment.

We’ll depart Ponta Delgada this morning and will be heading to the Furnas Valley where we will be staying at the Terra Nostra Garden Hotel. En route visit one of the few tea factories in Europe, the Gorreana Tea Factory. Here you will learn how the tea is cultivated, prepared and packaged. After lunch at Fim do Seculo we will check into our hotel and have free time to relax and enjoy the botanical gardens and geothermal pool of the famous Terra Nostra Park. Dinner tonight will be at Tony’s Restaurant.

Start the day with breakfast and then get a look at how our final dinner on the island is prepared…The Cozido das Furnas is famous for its unique cooking method, where it is steamed for several hours in the heat of the volcanic earth. Then while our dinner cooks all day, we will visit the CHapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitorias and enjoy lunch at Cantinho do Cais. We then return to our hotel for some relaxation. Tonight, celebrate a memorable trip as you enjoy the Cozido das Furnas.

- If space is still available, you will receive a quote for the price of your tour within 1 business day of filling out the form. Any questions will also be answered by the next business day.
- Your quote will be valid for 72 hours and will contain a link to make your tour deposit payment of $400. If a deposit is not received within 72 hours, space held will be released.
- After paying your deposit, you will receive an invoice showing your deposit and when your final payment will be due along with instructions on how to pay.
- Approximately 3 weeks prior to tour departure, you will receive your tour documents that will include: instructions for joining the group on arrival, vouchers for the included tour services, and helpful travel information.
