Itinerary
Buongiorno! Welcome to Italy! After your included transfer to the hotel, you'll have time to relax and explore the area. Meet your Local Leader and fellow Girl Scout travelers tonight at a welcome meeting. Afterward, we’ll head out as a group for dinner at a local restaurant. (d)
*Please note, Club Adventures and Girl Scouts cannot guarantee that any departure will be exclusively female.
A morning city tour of Milan showcases the city’s historic center. We'll walk between the rooftop sculptures of the Duomo di Milano, admiring its views and stunning gothic terrace. Then, it’s on to Lake Como. We’ll travel by train to this area of stunning beauty. We’ll arrive in Como and head to our base in the small town of Cadenabbia. This small town has a feeling of tranquility, and our accommodation sits right on the lake with incredible views. Tonight, perhaps you'd like to join us for a "Dessert and Chat" to enjoy some local sweets and bond with your fellow travelers. (b)
This morning, we'll board a ferry to travel across the blue waters of Lake Como to the pretty village of Bellagio. Here we’ll enjoy a walk through the countryside and discover the estate of the Villa Melzi. This grand, white villa sits just back from the water; its surrounding estate is filled with rare and exotic plant life. Next is a kayaking adventure which brings us all around the headland of Bellagio and showcases the area from a unique perspective. Back in Como, we’ll take a stroll through the medieval town center before enjoying dinner together at a local restaurant. (b, d)
Today is yours to write your own adventure. Use your Lake Pass to ferry between the various parts of the area, like Varenna or the beautiful Villa del Balbianello, which film fans may recognize from film franchises like James Bond and Star Wars. Villa Carlotta is another waterfront villa open to the public. It holds a range of artwork and is surrounded by acres of manicured Italian gardens. Simply strolling and admiring the beautiful views in Cadenabbia is enough! (b)
Today, we travel to Switzerland! Traveling by private motorcoach, we’ll leave the Italian Lakes behind and wind our way into the exquisite Swiss Alps. Upon arrival in Adelboden, we'll have lunch and explore the downtown area. We’ll visit a local museum that showcases the history of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts World Centre, Our Chalet—our home for the next three nights. Later this afternoon, we will make our way to the Chalet, situated high up in the mountains, ideally positioned for magnificent views. Upon arrival, we will partake in an opening ceremony where everyone receives a unique Chalet pin—only available to those who have visited the Centre! Afterward, enjoy a guided tour of the property before an included dinner. After dinner, we'll have s’mores over an evening fireside chat with a Girl Guide to learn about her volunteer experience! (b, d)
Nature awaits as we partake in a hiking experience today! Guided by the Chalet staff, this hike offers the perfect route to see some of the best views in the Adelboden valley. We’ll start by heading up the famous FIS World Cup ski run, then up to Höchsthorn, before winding through the Bütschi valley, where marmots can often be spotted playing amongst the rocks. This is a nearly ten-mile hike on unpaved trails, so hiking boots with ankle support are required. For a more leisurely day, a self-guided option to explore Adelboden and visit the Trummer family’s woodcarving studio is available. Afterward, we’ll return to the Chalet to relax and spend time together. (b, boxed l, d)
The ultimate Swiss adventure awaits us today. We’ll travel by coach to Gruyères to explore the area, including a fondue lunch at La Maison du Gruyère. Later, a visit to Maison Cailler for a true Swiss chocolate experience is in store. We’ll return to Our Chalet for our last night, complete with a special closing ceremony to end our incredible adventure. (b, boxed l, d)
Our time in the Italian Lakes and Swiss Alps ends today with an included group transfer to the Zurich Airport*. (b)
*Note: Travel time from Adelboden is approximately four hours. Departing flights from Zurich should not be booked prior to 3 p.m.

Things to know before your trip
The official currency of Italy is the Euro (EUR) while the official currency of Switzerland is the Swiss Franc (CHF).
The most convenient and cheapest way to acquire money in Europe is via an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) or Bancomat as they are often referred to. Check with your bank in advance concerning the suitability of your account / card overseas and any international fees that will be applied. You can withdraw local currencies easily at airports, major train stations and most city centres, but be sure to bring some extra emergency cash in a major currency that can be exchanged if the ATMs are not functioning. When leaving home don't forget your PIN and make sure you know the telephone number for cancelling your card if it is stolen. Keep this in a safe place. Credit cards are not always accepted in stores and restaurants. We recommend you carry some cash to pay for restaurant bills and other services.
Many places in Switzerland will accept Euros, but may give francs in return. It's recommended that you have some of both on hand, but credit and debit cards are also widely accepted.
While travelling with us you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your Local Leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. To give you maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though.
Vegetarians might find the menu selection less varied than they would see at home. Vegetarianism is not as common in this region and generally the choices are basic, involving vegetables, soups, salads, bread, cheese, fruit, yogurt, eggs etc. Vegans and those on gluten-free diets may find this region very challenging and may need to supplement meals with their own supplies from supermarkets and markets. Wherever possible we will cater for dietary needs for any included meals, but there may be times when those with special requirements may need to provide their own.
Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveler. Entry requirements can change at any time, so it’s important that you check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality. Your consultant will also be happy to point you in the right direction with acquiring visas. Visas can take several weeks to process, so familiarize yourself with any requirements as soon as you have booked your trip to allow for processing time.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. We require that, at a minimum, you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Please ask your travel agent or Club Adventures team member for insurance options at time of booking.
