Welcome to Thailand! Arrive in Bangkok, the country’s bustling capital, famous for tuk tuks, khlong boats, and street vendors serving up delicious Thai food. Kick off your adventure as you connect with your Local Leader and fellow Girl Scouts alums at a welcome meeting this evening. Afterward, we’ll hop onto some tuk tuks and head out for dinner at a local restaurant. (d)

We’ll begin our day with a river cruise down the Chao Phraya River to explore the famous
‘khlongs’ (canals). Life along these canals seems a world away from the chaotic streets of the capital. Disembark at Wat Arun, or The Dawn Temple, one of Thailand's most important religious sites and easily one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok. Later, we’ll pay a visit to the magnificent Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The sprawling royal complex houses numerous ornate structures that highlight the grand architectural traditions of Thailand. Tonight, we’ll join a local Thai woman for a street food tour to taste some of the incredible flavors Bangkok has to offer! (b, d)

Today, we’ll travel south to Kanchanaburi. Located at the confluence of the Khwae Noi and Khwae Yai rivers, Kanchanaburi is home to the infamous Bridge on the River Kwai. We’ll check in, relax at our hotel, and perhaps head out to explore the town. (b)

This morning, we’ll explore the Erawan Waterfalls. These terraced falls, named after the three- headed white elephant of Hindu mythology are a great place to walk around and discover the natural beauty of arguably the most famous national park in Thailand. We’ll enjoy lunch at the park before heading to Hellfire Pass Memorial, built to honor Allied soldiers. Afterward, we will take a ride along the historic tracks of the Kwai Noi River and travel over the original wooden viaduct (the Bridge on the River Kwai). Tonight, we will explore the rows of night market street vendors in town and perhaps grab a drink overlooking the River Kwai. (b)

We’ll depart Kanchanaburi and travel to Ayutthaya this morning. Then it will be time for lunch upon arrival. We’ll head with your Local Leader to the Historical Park, which is rich in ancient temples, historical ruins, and Buddha statues. Between the 14th and 18th centuries, Ayutthaya was considered the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom and grew to be one of the largest cosmopolitan urban centers in the world; we’ll see its historic grandeur on full display today. This evening, be ready to board a cruise around Ayutthaya Island to take in the romantic atmosphere of the old capital. While the sights of the Island City of Ayutthaya pass us by, enjoy a fine selection of traditional Thai cuisine. (b, d)

We’ll explore the Thai countryside as we travel to Sukhothai today! We’ll start by taking a traditional songthaew from our accommodation to the train station, then we’ll board a day train to Phitsanulok. From there, we’ll drive to Sukhothai, the historic capital of Siam, stopping off at Wat Yai Phitsanulok along the way. Once at our resort, spend some time in the open air and have a swim in the onsite pool! Perhaps join your Girl Scouts Host for a “Dessert and Chat” to enjoy some local sweets and bond over shared memories of your time as a Girl Scout! (b)

Located on a fertile plain, Sukhothai, meaning "Dawn of Happiness,” was established in the 13th century as one of the first ancient capitals of Siam. It’s now famous for its World Heritage-listed Historic Park that celebrates the Golden Age of Thai civilization. Upon arrival at the park, we’ll hop on our bicycles and enjoy a few leisurely hours learning about the history of this fascinating place. After enjoying a delicious lunch, enjoy some free time this afternoon before we head to a local house for a Girl Scouts Connection: a Thai-style cooking class. We’ll learn how to make traditional food from the Sukhothai region such as chili pastes, fragrant curries, spicy soups, steamed fish cake, and Thai custard. (b, l, d)

We head north today to the Hmong Hilltribes, which are set in a peaceful valley of a scenic mountain range and surrounded by stunning natural landscapes of jungle and mountains. The Hmong Lodge we’ll stay at offers a unique and tranquil experience and is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of busy tourist spots. The Hmong are an ethnic minority in Thailand who originated in the south of China; today, they comprise the second largest hilltribe group in Thailand. After a barbecue dinner in the lodge's open-air dining area, the day will conclude with a cultural performance by the Hmong people. You'll gain an insight into the traditional lifestyle of the tribe with a wedding ceremony enactment, shamanic ritual, and makong (cotton ball) throwing. Return to the lodge tonight for a fireside chat and s’mores! (b, d)

We travel today to Chiang Mai, the most vibrant city in northern Thailand. Renowned for
Dazzling beauty and extremely welcoming locals, the ‘Rose of the North’ will leave you spellbound. This afternoon, experience a Traditional Thai Massage in a local establishment that supports female employment. Later, embark on a scenic, winding drive up a mountain to one of the country's most stunning temple complexes, Doi Suthep. The 300-step stairway leads us to the temples, and the climb is well worth the effort. Afterward, check out the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar and discover local handicrafts and fabulous Northern Thailand street food dishes. (b)

Today, we’ll visit the Chang Chill Elephant Experience, an organization that supports the protection, conservation, and lifestyle of free roaming elephants in the region. We’ll observe the daily patterns of these jungle giants from a safe distance, seeing how they graze and socialize with their friends. Our Insider Experts will be able to give us a lecture on the elephants themselves, their sustainable tourism practices, and conservation efforts in the area. Enjoy some refreshments nearby the elephants’ mud pit but be careful not to get sprayed! On our way back to Chiang Mai, stop by Kao Mai Estate 1955 café for a coffee—this eclectic tobacco factory-turned-café was recently awarded the Cultural Heritage Conservation for New Design accreditation from UNESCO, and we’ll see why! Tonight, we’ll gather at the famous, annual Loy Krathong Lantern Festival for our closing ceremony to bond and reminisce about our adventure. This will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Afterward, we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner together. (b, l, d)
